Hi, I'm Kara.
I have always been fascinated by the mind-body connection. I learned early in life that unprocessed emotions can remain in the body, and that affects how we present ourselves in the world, in relationships, and limits the joy we can access in life.
My interest in healing has led me to study psychology, astrology, neuroscience, herbalism, shamanism, yoga, and other traditional modalities of healing.
In 2002, I became a yoga teacher and massage therapist. Working with students and clients deepened my understanding of somatic psychology. Becoming a Clinical Ayurvedic Specialist in 2007 gave me a private practice in San Francisco and New York, and I counseled clients one-on-one in all matters of health and wellness. I also continued to take advanced trainings in yoga and ayurveda in both the USA and India.
At some point it became clear that some clients, particularly those with mental health challenges and traumatic histories, struggled to make positive lifestyle changes. I felt that I lacked the counseling skills to really reach them, so I returned to school and graduated in 2014 with a Masters in Mental Health Counseling.
I worked with individuals in a psychiatric rehab program, and then began working at Johns Hopkins as a mental health and substance abuse counselor. My interest and knowledge of trauma and its effects grew, and I pursued additional certification as a Clinical Trauma Professional. I also became an EMDR practitioner, which is a top therapy for healing PTSD and Complex PTSD.
My love for Vedic Astrology runs through all of this, which can help interested clients to understand their tendencies, karmas and the timing of life events.
I LOVE my work. I feel so fortunate to use all of the tools – the modern and the ancient – to assist clients to find safety in their body and nervous system, and to find joy and confidence to live their own unique lives with freedom. It is hard to be a human being. There are many opportunities for suffering, but there are also many opportunities for healing. I currently work with residents of Florida and Maryland, and would love to hear from you to see how I could support you.
